Progress & Plan

PROGRESS

Once I got the green light for the project, I was ready to go. Aside from the assigned work such as the first two blogs and the pitch, here's what I've accomplished so far:

1/10/17: Contacted mentors to make sure they are willing to help me.
1/11/17: Asked mentors for help creating a timeline, which they did.
1/17/17: Downloaded the Duolingo App. I took a placement test and was impressed with how much I remembered, only to have the results tell me that I was 0% fluent!

Yikes! I have work to do! I started my first lessons on this day, which included the basics and phrases.

1/18/17: I continued Duolingo lessons. My research also led me to a website called Fluencia. I registered on that and began lessons. I was worried I'd be confused with doing two different sets of lessons, but it wasn't a problem.
1/19/17-1/22/17: I completed both Duolingo and Fluencia lessons. I discovered that I was doing a free trial of Fluencia, and I'm not going to pay for it - so it's Duolingo from now on.
1/23/17-2/2/17: Worked on Duolingo each day. I typically do three lessons at least - never less, sometimes more.

2/1/17: Checked out a book from the library about the culture of Spain.

As of today, 2/2/17, I've completed the following on Duolingo: Basics 1 & 2, Phrases, Food 1 & 2, Animals, Possession, Clothing, Questions, Verbs Present 1, Family, Sizes, Household, and Occupation. I've done all of that and Duolingo says I'm only 3% fluent now!

It's progress - but slow...

PLAN

I feel that I'm relying a bit too heavily on Duolingo so I need to branch out a bit and do other things.
I plan to do the following three things:

1. Continue advancing in Duolingo. The next areas that I will be studying include Time, Adjectives, Verbs Present 2, and Determiners. I will also go back and strengthen all of the areas I've completed.
2. Read some of the book I checked out about the culture of Spain. I would like to learn about Spanish food over next couple of weeks. Maybe I'll even try a recipe!  (Ok, that's probably not wise. I'll get Randy or the girls to try one!)
3. Start watching YouTube videos on learning Spanish. I'll specifically be exploring www.youtube.com/user/SpanishStepbyStep to see if that will enhance my learning.

I'm looking forward to learning more!
